Minister Luis Planas and the president of the regional government of Extremadura, Mr. Guillermo Fernández Vara, highlight the importance of this project and installation in the national Iberian sector and especially in Extremadura, both for its productive capacity and for the example it represents in innovation and application of green and circular economy criteria.
/wp:paragraph wp:paragraphAt a multitudinous event with more than 200 guests, attendees had the opportunity to tour the facilities of the Complejo del Ibérico de Extremadura, the new meat processing centre specialising in Iberian ham located in the town of Zafra. They learned first-hand about the great commitment made by the company to develop an investment project that stands out for being based on the best available technology both in the production lines and in energy and water use, in accordance with the values of sustainability and reduction of environmental impact shared by all the partners of the entity. All of this is encompassed in a design in accordance with the most demanding food safety specifications and quality certifications, necessary to achieve the most demanding international approvals.
/wp:paragraph wp:paragraphDuring the institutional statements, both the Minister of Agriculture and the President of the Regional Government of Extremadura referred to the importance of the meat and livestock industry in the economy of our country, an innovative sector that is very committed to animal welfare and sustainability and is exemplary at an international level. For Extremadura, a leading region in the primary sector of Iberian pigs, this project provides a significant leap forward, now also in industrial activity, retaining a large part of the added value that was dispersed to other regions.
/wp:paragraph wp:paragraphFurthermore, Mr. Francisco Esparrago and Mr. Antonio Cordero, members of the board of directors of CIBEX, former president and current president respectively, also focused on the importance of this project in terms of generating direct and indirect employment for a community such as Extremadura. In their speeches, they took the opportunity to thank the great effort made by the presidency of the regional government of Extremadura, as well as a special recognition of the involvement in the success of the project by Ms. Begoña Garcia Bernal and her team of general directors, without forgetting the support provided at all times by the Zafra City Council.
/wp:paragraph wp:paragraphThe Iberian complex in Extremadura, CIBEX, is the result of the union of seven large meat industries in our country and with facilities in Extremadura, such as GAM Family, Argal, Villar - Grupo Costa, Campofrio Sigma, Montesano, Señorío de Montanera and Ibercom Cooperativa, which, although they are entities that compete in the markets, have been able to jointly generate an investment project of more than 27 million euros in an example of business collaboration without precedent in Extremadura and Spain.
/wp:paragraph wp:paragraphThese facilities will allow the processing and transformation of more than 2,000 Iberian pigs per day, exceeding 400,000 animals per year operating at full capacity. A capacity sufficient to be able to serve many small and medium-sized livestock farmers in the region, helping to capture the added value of production within the autonomous community.
